Yumeshima, Sakishima and Maishima: Osaka Bay's islands explained
Three man-made islands sit side by side in Osaka Bay. See what is on each one today, which station or bus serves it, and which one your trip actually needs.

Three islands, three different trips
Yumeshima, Sakishima and Maishima are separate islands built by Osaka’s port reclamation programme. On a map they look like one waterfront. On the ground they have different stations, different reasons to visit, and in Yumeshima’s case, nothing open to visitors yet. Osaka’s Port and Harbor Bureau describes them as follows.
| Island | On signs | What is there now | How you get there | Visit now? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yumeshima | 夢洲 | The former Expo 2025 site, the resort construction site, a container terminal | Osaka Metro Chuo Line, Yumeshima C09 | No visitor attractions are open |
| Sakishima (Nanko) | 咲洲 / 南港 | INTEX Osaka, Cosmosquare hotels and offices | Chuo Line or New Tram, Cosmosquare C10 / P09 | Yes, mainly for trade shows and conferences |
| Maishima | 舞洲 | Arenas, a stadium, sports grounds and parkland | Bus from JR Sakurajima or JR Universal City | Yes, for sports events and outdoor leisure |

Yumeshima: a station, but nothing to visit yet
The Port and Harbor Bureau’s plan gives the east of Yumeshima to port logistics around the container terminal and the centre to an international tourism district: first Expo 2025, then the integrated resort. Osaka Prefecture’s target for the resort is autumn 2030, and main construction began in April 2025. The former Expo grounds are waiting for a developer to be chosen in 2027, as explained in what is open and what is planned.
The island has one public transport link: Yumeshima Station (C09), the end of the Chuo Line, which opened on 19 January 2025. Hokko Kanko Bus withdrew its Yumeshima routes in August 2024, and its current route list shows no service across the island.
You may see the district names Yumeshima-naka (夢洲中) and Yumeshima-higashi (夢洲東) on maps or in Osaka City documents. They are addresses on this island, in Konohana Ward, not separate destinations.
A ticket to the station does not give access to the construction areas or port facilities, and this guide does not suggest a walking route into them. If you still need to reach the station, our transport guide covers the journey from KIX, Shin-Osaka, Umeda and Namba.
Sakishima (Nanko): where INTEX Osaka is
Sakishima is the island most visitors to the bay actually need. INTEX Osaka is here, at Nanko-Kita in Suminoe Ward, along with Cosmosquare’s hotels and the Osaka Prefectural Government’s Sakishima building.
Cosmosquare (C10) is the last stop before Yumeshima on the Chuo Line and one end of the New Tram (P09), so it is where the two lines meet. INTEX lists Cosmosquare, Trade Center-mae and Nakafuto as its nearest stations and recommends Cosmosquare for Chuo Line passengers on busy event days. Our INTEX Osaka access guide compares the three.
Maishima: sports and parks, but no railway
The Port and Harbor Bureau describes Maishima as logistics and environmental facilities in the east and sport and recreation in the west. Bus stops on the island include Cerezo Sports Park Maishima, Ookini Arena Maishima and Osaka City Shinkin Stadium.
Maishima has no station. Hokko Kanko Bus Route 2, the Maishima Active Bus, runs from JR Sakurajima and JR Universal City stations. The Osaka Convention & Tourism Bureau also describes city bus route 81 from JR Nishikujo, about 35 minutes. On big event days the island’s roads can be closed or diverted; the bus operator warned of heavily disrupted timetables on music festival days in summer 2026. Check your event’s own travel advice before you go.
How the islands connect
Roads link all three. The Yumemai Bridge (夢舞大橋) joins Yumeshima to Maishima, and the Yumesaki Tunnel (夢咲トンネル) joins it to Sakishima, according to Osaka Prefecture. By public transport, only Sakishima and Yumeshima are connected, one stop apart on the Chuo Line. The bus operator’s route list shows no service from Maishima to either of the other islands.
Osaka Prefecture and Osaka City have studied extending the JR Sakurajima Line through Maishima to Yumeshima. Their August 2025 study favoured that option, but building it has not been decided, and no opening date has been announced.
Which island do you need?
- A trade show, conference or a hotel at Cosmosquare: Sakishima. Use Cosmosquare (C10), or the New Tram to Trade Center-mae or Nakafuto.
- A match or concert at a Maishima arena or stadium: Maishima. Take the bus from JR Sakurajima or JR Universal City.
- The future resort or the former Expo site: Yumeshima. You can ride to Yumeshima Station, but there is nothing to visit yet.
When you know where you are going, compare places to stay, or read what the resort’s hotel plans include if the planned MGM Osaka hotels are part of your thinking.
